Red Bull Powertrains have a new opportunities for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Gas Exchange design team. This role will be pivotal as we transition from building our team’s first Power Units to refining them into a race-ready package, all aimed at delivering the most competitive car on the 2026 Formula One grid.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of the components within gas exchange. The role requires a deep understanding of engineering first principles, the ability to guide and influence the wider engineering team, and active participation in design reviews, fault investigations, and engineering decision-making. Additionally, the Has Exchange Senior Mechanical Engineer will deputize for the team leader when required and represent the team in engineering and program-focused meetings, ensuring that technical decisions align with project goals and company strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Take ownership of mechanical and system-level components, ensuring their design, development, validation, and integration meet performance and durability requirements.
2. Investigate faults and failures, identifying root causes, implementing containment measures, and developing resolutions for future hardware to ensure long-term reliability and performance improvements.
3. Apply engineering first principles to develop robust, innovative, and efficient mechanical solutions.
4. Guide and influence the wider engineering team by providing technical leadership and sharing best practices.
5. Lead and contribute to design reviews, ensuring technical accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with engineering standards.
6. Develop project scope and define technical requirements to align with engineering objectives and ensure successful project execution.
7. Define Race Validation Plans (RVPs) to achieve performance and durability targets.
8. Ensure adherence to the program plan, meeting key milestones, deliverables, and technical objectives, while effectively communicating progress, risks, and mitigation strategies to the Head of Department, team leader, program management, and PCG.
9. Mentor Engineers, fostering skill development and technical excellence within the team.
10. Work closely with manufacturing, quality, and test teams to support product development and validation.
11. Deputise for the team leader as needed, taking responsibility for team operations and decision-making.
12. Represent the team in engineering and program-focused meetings, communicating technical progress and challenges effectively.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
13. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
14. A strong understanding of elements within gas exchange components in a power unit.
15. Proficiency in CAD and CAE tools to generate high quality models and technical drawings.
16. Experience with root cause analysis and failure investigation methodologies.
17. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
18. Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, and attention to detail.
19. Strong communication, delegation, and information-sharing skills, with the ability to engage and influence teams effectively, ensuring clarity of objectives and alignment across engineering disciplines.
