Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the engineering, design, and development of Chassis & Powertrain systems, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and aesthetic standards within a vehicle program, including steering, suspension, engine, and transmission cooling systems, IC engine, gearbox, and final drive.
2. Manage the BoM structure, mass, design and release timing, technical specifications, DFMEA, DVP inputs, and ETRS. Collate input from the wider function group and present metrics/KPI as required.
3. Operate independently regarding engineering and project management within production, providing technical expertise and guidance to multidisciplinary teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
4. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering innovation and excellence.
5. Lead internal stakeholders and external partners to define design requirements, specifications, and program deliverables for assemblies and systems, with strategic input on component R&D and application for future programs.
6. Define requirements for assemblies and components based on vehicle and system requirements cascaded from the Principal Engineer, and write attribute summaries and technical specifications.
7. Lead feasibility studies and risk assessments to inform design decisions and mitigate issues.
8. Work closely with suppliers to conduct design for manufacture studies that meet program requirements.
9. Carry out risk assessments and FMEA during early design stages to identify and reduce failures.
10. Create DVPs based on attribute requirements and FMEA outputs to ensure durability, reliability, and functionality of powertrain components, coordinating with development teams for testing and validation.
11. Ensure timely delivery of components and systems, managing project direction as needed.
12. Create and maintain work plans for the delivery of powertrain systems aligned with program timelines.
13. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of powertrain systems into the vehicle program.
14. Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and partners to deliver systems considering performance, mass, certification, aesthetics, and sustainability.
15. Propose continuous improvement initiatives for design processes, methodologies, and tools.
16. Promote a culture of responsibility and accountability within the engineering team and foster collaboration across functions.
17. Maintain working knowledge of IC engines, auxiliaries, manual gearboxes, final drives, steering, and suspension.
18. Review design processes to establish standards for components.
19. Investigate and resolve issues related to design, manufacturing, and assembly, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
20. Support suppliers and quality teams in manufacturing challenges, cost reduction, and quality improvements.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in high-performance Chassis & Powertrain systems design and engineering.
* Bachelor's/master’s degree in mechanical, automotive, aerospace engineering, or similar.
* Proven experience as a Senior Engineer, leading design and project engineering in automotive, motorsport, or aerospace industries.
* Deep knowledge of Chassis & Powertrain system design, development, and optimization, with hands-on experience in engineering tools and software.
* Proficiency in creating 3D CAD models and 2D drawings, including GD&T.
* Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a successful track record of leading engineering teams.
* Creative thinker passionate about pushing engineering boundaries.
* Organized, persuasive, resourceful, flexible, ambitious, self-directed, and goal-oriented.
