Job Summary
We’re looking for someone passionate about quality, safety and sustainability to join our Estates team at the Royal United Hospital Trust (RUH). You will help maintain and improve the hospital’s physical environment so that both clinical and non‑clinical services can be delivered safely and efficiently.
Main duties of the job
* Support the safe, efficient and compliant management of hospital buildings and systems.
* Maintain accurate records and assist with system commissioning and validation.
* Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, HTMs and industry best practices.
* Act as an Authorised Person under supervision, assisting in the oversight of Asbestos, Confined Space and Working at Height compliance.
* Contribute to the development of asset registers, condition surveys and capital replacement plans.
* Support the implementation of the Estates Operational Strategy, Quality Management System (QMS) and Sustainability Strategy.
* Supervise contractors and maintenance teams, supporting both planned and reactive maintenance programmes.
* Assist with service shutdowns when required.
* Assist with audits, risk assessments and compliance reporting.
* Analyse data to identify trends and support informed decision‑making.
* Contribute to policy development and process implementation.
* Implement innovative and sustainable approaches to estates management.

Technical qualifications & training (Essential)
* HND in Construction, Architecture or Surveying or recognised and registered EITB, City & Guilds, modern apprenticeship, NVQ level 4 or approved equivalent training.
* Demonstrable in‑depth knowledge and experience within a required technical discipline (e.g. Asbestos, Working at Height, Confined Space).
Desirable technical qualifications & training
* Specialist knowledge gained from working in a similar role.
* Member of relevant healthcare or engineering institutes (e.g. IHEEM, HEFMA, CIBSE, IET).
* Experience across several HTMs either as a CP or AP.
* Efficiency improvement training, e.g. Lean / Six Sigma.
Essential knowledge & experience
* Knowledge of HTMs, HBNs and Estates specific legislation.
* Good interpersonal skills: influencing, negotiation and communication (written and verbal).
* Sound IT skills in Microsoft Office Suite, CAD and CAFM systems.
* Ability to evaluate, develop and implement systems and procedures.
* Experience of working in a similar role.
Desirable knowledge & experience
* Good knowledge of energy efficient working practices within engineering.
* Previous experience of working with a quality management system (e.g. ISO 9001).
Essential specific skills
* Team leadership experience, and the ability to positively negotiate with and influence others.
* Previous knowledge of managing asbestos in line with Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
Desirable specific skills
* Change management skills.
