Job Introduction
Scams, doorstep crime and other forms of fraud and financial abuse ruin lives. Join us to help protect victims in Oxfordshire and prevent others from becoming victims through education, awareness and individual support. The Trading Standards Service’s Prevention Team undertakes a wide variety of projects and scams‑education work, supporting vulnerable residents who have been or are likely to be targeted by fraud and scam criminals. The team works alongside regulatory officers and partners across police, fire, social care, Age UK Oxfordshire, the National Trading Standards Scams Team and many other agencies.
In addition to scams work, the Prevention team is heavily involved in long‑standing projects such as the Junior Citizens programme, the annual electric blanket testing programme and the schools Consumer Challenge Quiz.
About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self‑motivated, confident person to join our team as Senior Community Engagement Officer. As the leading member of the Prevention Team you will:
* Lead projects and build relationships with partners, the media and other agencies.
* Mentor team members and assist with training across the Trading Standards Service.
* Analyse data and support the Service in using its resources most effectively and efficiently.
* Engage with victims, family members, neighbors, traders, businesses and utility companies, and where necessary, intervene and negotiate with rogues and scammers.
* Develop and deliver talks and events on scams, fraud and other Trading Standards work such as smoking cessation.
* Organise workflows, mentor the team and act as a vital link to the Leadership Team to ensure delivery on projects and scam‑work.
* Work outside normal office hours, including evenings, weekends and in various weather conditions, and travel efficiently around Oxfordshire and at times further afield.
