The Opportunity
As the Biostatistics Leader, Ophthalmology, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight across all Biostatisticians within Ophthalmology, ensuring a cohesive and high-performing team that drives excellence in service of our global Biostatistics strategy through study design, data analysis, and insights generation. You will report to the Global Head of Biostatistics and be responsible for leading the team supporting the Ophthalmology area, ensuring high performance and delivery against the portfolio. Your role will be crucial in informing clinical design in partnership with all therapeutic area-aligned Biostatistics TA Leaders.
You will drive excellence in Biostatistics in Ophthalmology by partnering cross-functionally across PD Data Sciences & Analytics (PD-DSA) to support portfolio delivery. You will also collaborate with other Biostatistics TA Leaders on issues impacting all therapeutic areas and teams at Roche. Leveraging the strengths of a global team, you will create an inspiring environment where team members feel empowered, take ownership, and strive for continuous improvement. You will build and maintain internal and external relationships, collaborating to stay at the forefront of the industry. You may also contribute to, develop, and lead initiatives that shape our technical, business, and healthcare environments.
You will lead a global organization of approximately 20-50 Biostatisticians supporting late-stage development within your therapeutic area. Your direct reports will include directors and above. Reporting to the Global Head of Biostatistics, you will influence and contribute to the overall strategy and success of Roche's late-stage development programs.
PD-DSA SHARED LEADERSHIP OBJECTIVES
1. Develop and set a clear PD-DSA strategy and goals that align with Roche’s broader objectives, integrating Roche’s One Pharma strategy, PD goals, and R&D Excellence methods.
2. Embed and drive adoption of PD-DSA’s strategic imperatives of Data, Digital/AI, and Design (the 3Ds) across your teams’ workflows, ensuring a seamless integration of these principles into daily operations.
3. Act as a role model by delivering excellence, fostering a culture of learning, growth, and continuous improvement that empowers team members.
4. Define and create clear accountability across your organization and collaborate with colleagues and partners to maintain alignment and drive cross-functional collaboration.
Leadership and Strategy
Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Ophthalmology Biostatistics strategy, ensuring high-quality approaches aligned with the global strategy.
Develop and implement strategic objectives specific to Ophthalmology, ensuring alignment with broader company goals.
Ensure early integration of biostatistical considerations in study designs and development programs, aligning with regulatory and scientific standards.
Partner with senior leadership across PD-DSA, clinical development, regulatory affairs, and data science to shape the future of statistical contributions at Roche.
Represent statistical expertise in therapy area governance and development boards to ensure scientific rigor.
Address challenges as they arise, directing them to appropriate decision-makers.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
Act as the primary liaison between Biostatistics and key stakeholders to drive alignment and shape outcomes.
Foster collaboration with external partners, including regulatory agencies, academic institutions, and industry consortia.
Establish partnerships with clinical teams on study design and data strategies, influencing cross-functional teams and ensuring industry advancements are incorporated.
Represent Biostatistics in meetings, regulatory interactions, and collaborations.
Influence strategies by providing data-driven insights and recommendations.
Technical Biostatistics Accountability
Act as the single PD-DSA point of contact for Ophthalmology, overseeing data analysis and insights strategies.
Ensure scientific rigor in data analyses and interpretations, supporting informed decision-making.
Foster an environment of continuous learning embracing digital & AI advancements, contributing expertise in emerging technologies.
Accountable for data analysis and insights generation for Ophthalmology, maintaining standards and best practices.
Team Development
Lead and develop a high-performing global team of biostatistics leaders, supporting their growth and impact.
Establish and track performance metrics aligned with organizational goals, promoting continuous improvement.
Provide feedback and recognition, fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
Partner to attract, retain, and develop talent supporting long-term success.
Who You Are
PhD or equivalent in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Mathematics.
More than 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry at a senior level, with emphasis on TA strategy and medical understanding.
Deep knowledge of GCP, regulations, and compliance standards.
Understanding of drug development lifecycle, data, and statistical sciences, including advanced analytics and data visualization.
Experience with high-dimensional data and analytics trends.
Proven ability to establish partnerships and act as an ambassador for Roche.
Interest in AI and digital advancements.
Excellent communication skills.
Willingness to travel (~20%). Relocation benefits are available.
