Spencer Clarke Group are seeking a Committee Officer for a local authority client in Ilford.
In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the democratic process by managing the full committee cycle, ensuring effective governance, transparency, and compliance with statutory requirements.
Key Duties:
* Manage the full lifecycle of council and committee meetings, including preparing agendas, publishing papers, and taking accurate minutes.
* Provide procedural and governance advice to elected members and senior officers in line with statutory and constitutional requirements.
* Coordinate and support hybrid/in-person meetings, ensuring they run smoothly and adhere to democratic standards.
* Maintain accurate records and use committee management systems (e.g. Modern.Gov) to ensure transparency and accessibility of decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate will have the following skills / experience:
* Proven experience supporting council committees or democratic services within a local authority or similar public sector environment.
* Strong knowledge of local government procedures, legislation, and governance frameworks (e.g. Local Government Act, FOI, GDPR).
* Demonstrated ability to draft clear, concise minutes and manage the publication of official documents to strict deadlines.
* Proficiency in using committee management systems such as Modern.Gov and Microsoft Office applications.
What's on offer:
Salary: £25+ph
*may negotiate higher for exceptional candidates, based on experience*
Contract type: 3-6 months minimum, with a high likelihood of extension
Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
