Food Safety and Quality Management Systems Lead

Overview
The role involves managing and enhancing the quality control systems for our ice cream products, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, driving continuous improvement, and leading a team of quality specialists within the factory.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement quality assurance policies and procedures to guarantee product safety and quality.
* Plan, conduct, and monitor product testing and inspections to verify compliance with standards.
* Maintain records of internal audits and coordinate the internal audit program for the QMS.
* Investigate non‑conformance issues, customer complaints, and develop corrective and preventive actions.
* Collect and analyze statistical quality data to identify improvement opportunities.
* Design and deliver training programs on QMS and relevant quality standards.
* Ensure ongoing compliance with industry regulations, coordinate on‑site audits, and support external audits.
* Manage risk assessments, implement corrective actions, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
* Maintain and oversee the documented QMS system, including document management for food safety.
* Lead external audits and visits by regulatory authorities.
* Report regularly to the SU Quality Manager and manage quality incidents.
* Support new product implementation, assess process capability, and define standards.
* Act as a deputy for the SU QA Manager and represent the site on relevant working groups.
Other Requirements
* Competence in standard Microsoft applications.
* Competence in SAP applications is an advantage.
* Driving licence holder is an advantage.
* Willingness to work some weekend or out‑of‑hours shifts.
* Occasional travel within the UK and Europe.
Professional Qualifications
* Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering.
* 3‑5 years of experience in food safety and quality management, preferably in dairy or ice‑cream manufacturing.
* Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and food safety regulations (Food Safety Level 4, HACCP Level 4).
* Working knowledge of FSSC or BRC standards.
* Strong project management, multi‑tasking, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Ability to interpret and communicate technical information effectively.
Experience Required
* Educational background: degree‑level technical education in food safety management.
* Extensive experience in Quality Assurance, Laboratory, and food safety management.
* Leadership experience, capable of managing departmental and site issues.
* Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
* Decisiveness, analytical thinking, and the ability to coach others.
* Commitment to continuous improvement and long‑term planning.
* Computer literacy and a good level of competency with technology tools.
* Accountability and the willingness to hold team members to delivery standards.
