Role Overview
Teaching Personnel is working closely with a number of mainstream secondary schools in St Helens to appoint enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistants (TAs) ahead of the new academic year starting September 2026.
We are recruiting for both full-time and flexible part-time positions, supporting schools with a consistent need for dedicated support staff. Many of these placements are long-term, with the opportunity to move into permanent roles for candidates who demonstrate strong performance and commitment.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in secondary education or build a long-term career supporting young people.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this varied and rewarding role, you will:
* Provide classroom-based support across a range of subjects at KS3 and KS4
* Work with students on a 1:1 basis or in small intervention groups
* Assist teachers in maintaining an engaging and focused learning environment
* Support pupils with additional needs, including SEN and behavioural challenges
* Help manage classroom behaviour and promote positive learning attitudes
* Contribute to lesson preparation and general classroom organisation
* Encourage student confidence, participation, and progress
Who We’re Looking For
We are keen to hear from individuals who are passionate about education and confident supporting secondary-aged pupils.
You will ideally have:
* Experience working with young people (in schools, youth work, sports coaching, care, or similar)
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* The ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable
* A proactive approach and willingness to support across different subjects
* A genuine interest in helping students succeed
Also suitable for:
* Graduates considering a career in teaching
* Individuals exploring education or pastoral roles
* Experienced Teaching Assistants seeking new opportunities
Desirable (not essential):
* Previous school-based experience
* Knowledge of SEN (e.g., ASD, ADHD, dyslexia)
* Relevant qualifications (TA Level 2/3, degree, etc.)
