Are you an experienced, dedicated, patient centred MRI radiographer with proven high quality clinical skills who wants to lead research in MR at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals for the future? Then this could be the opportunity for you!

This role forms part of the new management structure in the Gold Star awarded MR services working across Preston, Chorley and the Community Diagnostic Centre alongside a Clinical Quality Lead MR radiographer, MRSO Safety officer, Operational Lead radiographer and a Principal MR radiographer, together forming a strong leadership team to influence the direction of a safe, effective patient focused MR service.

We work in a busy demanding environment but you would be working with an excellent teams providing support and development for a team including support workers and reporting radiographers. You will work closely with the Consultant Radiologists and other research teams within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be responsible for managing the research within the department and facilitating the commercial elements.

You will be responsible for supporting the Principal Radiographer in maintaining and developing the service with research as a focus. You will be expected to work clinically for 50% of your time to support staff and embed research in everyday practice.

You will need to have excellent organisational and record keeping skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

1. Ensure a high radiographic standard is delivered by self and others within the team based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of standards to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines
2. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
3. Communicate with patients, relatives and other healthcare workers to ensure appropriate dissemination of complex information, in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating
4. Manage research within the department in a safe, effective manner including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.
5. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by all staff within the team
6. To participate in development, education and training of staff and students.
7. Cultivate a learning and research culture.
8. Attend and chair meetings as appropriate to role.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

9. Professional qualification DCR or Radiography degree.
10. HCPC Registered
11. Post graduate qualification (appropriate to post)

Desirable criteria

12. Attendance at study days / conferences
13. Management experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria

14. Recent extensive post qualification experience in MR.
15. Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality supported by CPD.
16. Knowledge of MHRA 2008.
17. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice.
18. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.
19. Knowledge of ethical issues
20. Experience in Research and Development

Desirable criteria

21. Experience of managing a clinical area.
22. Experience of budgetary management.
23. Experience at appraisals
24. Advanced neuro experience
