The people of the Performance and Analysis Service are committed to improving the lives of the children and young people in Sheffield. We are looking for a friendly, creative, and enthusiastic person who can support our contribution to building a dynamic and prosperous city full of culture, learning and innovation.
The focus of the Children’s Social Care post will primarily be on supporting teams and senior managers within the Children & Families Service through the provision of performance and management, information relating to social care.
You will be responsible for ensuring statutory returns, including the Children In Need (CIN) Census; Children Looked After (SSDA903) Return; Adoption Leadership Board quarterly returns; and Social Work Workforce Census, are completed on behalf of the Children and Families Service in an accurate and timely fashion. It will involve maintaining close working relationships with customers to advise on maximising the use of information systems to enhance service delivery. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting positive impact on the lives of children in Sheffield.
You will be expected to have excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge of advanced analytical techniques and experience of report writing/presenting. The successful applicant will be working in a fast paced and highly technical team, with a commitment to making information available to support professional and strategic decision making at all levels of Sheffield City Council and partner organisations.
In the Performance and Analysis Service we are constantly improving our understanding of technology and the services we support. We use a range of advanced recording, storage and reporting systems. We manage and run both Microsoft and Oracle databases. We work with packages including Power BI, Excel, STATA, Python, R, SQL Server Reporting Services, Tableau and ArcGIS. We pursue an open and collaborative approach to working with partners both within and outside Sheffield City Council.
About you
As a Senior Analyst, you will need to have:
1. An interest and enthusiasm for improving outcomes for children and young people in the city.
2. A willingness to work closely with our clients and partners – good communication skills.
3. Strong IT and analytical skills – including an understanding of how information flows through databases and how to extract data and create automated reports.
4. An ability to translate customer requirements into workable reporting tools.
5. Basic understanding of the benefits/limitations of data and of statistical analysis.
6. An ability to analyse, interpret and present data.
7. A flare for creativity and problem solving.
8. An ability to work independently.
9. Knowledge or experience of working with specific children’s services data is desirable but not essential.
