About the Job

Salary: Career Grade starting at Grade 7 - £29,540 to £32,061 per annum, progressing to Grade 8 - £32,597 - £35,412 per annum, and then to Grade 9 - £36,363 to £39,152 per annum.

Contract: Permanent.

Working pattern: Full-time, 37 hours per week. Flexible working options available, to be agreed with your line manager.

Location: Your office base will be Chichester, and a typical week will combine homeworking with attendance at the office, minimum twice a week, and some site visits. This is led by the needs of the service.

As a Flood Risk Management Officer, you will work on the delivery of the County Council's duties to manage local flood risk. With a "Can do" attitude, you will champion sustainable solutions for the County with both internal and external stakeholders.

In this role your work will be varied. Day to day tasks include:

* Supporting the delivery of the Council's Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.
* Investigating, consenting and enforcement (in relation to watercourses) relating to the land drainage act 1991.
* Acting as a statutory consultee on sustainable drainage schemes under the planning system.
* Cooperation with other Risk Management Authorities.

About You

This is a role with opportunities to learn, develop and progress through the career grades. Some of the skills, experience and knowledge required to be successful in this role include:

* Ability to think through issues and problem solve whilst taking in the wider context and potential solutions.
* Working independently and managing your workload to ensure priorities and deadlines are achieved.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure that information is presented in a clear format relevant to the audience.
* Ability to convey technical information, work as part of a team and build effective working relationships.
* Knowledge of the Authority's role in flood risk management and be able to represent the County Council at meetings.
* Understanding of flood risk management principles and the national flood risk management agenda.
* Experience in a flood risk management related field.
* Experience of delivering projects and the skills required to deliver this.
* Sound & accurate IT knowledge to enable production of written reports etc.
