Overview
Band 2 (with progression supported to band 3 on completion of internal competencies)
Working pattern: Monday - Wednesday (08:00 - 16:00, 30 min lunch). The role is based at Darent Valley Hospital, with occasional coverage at Queen Mary’s Hospital. Inpatient orthopaedic physiotherapy focusing on rehabilitation of traumatic musculoskeletal injuries and elective post-surgical rehabilitation, with discharge planning and community-based follow-up as needed.
All relevant training will be provided to understand how to assess a patient, prescribe exercises, issue equipment and document notes.
There will be opportunity for inpatient orthopaedic weekend work on a voluntary basis; the service may be consulted on to cover weekends as part of its remit.
Responsibilities
Main duties include:
* Assess and manage inpatients with orthopaedic conditions and support rehabilitation to discharge home or to community services.
* Support elective orthopaedic patients requiring acute rehabilitation post-surgery.
* Plan and document patient progress and outcomes; prescribe exercises and equipment as required.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and contribute to the delivery of the orthopaedic service across sites.
Clinical leadership is through the established structure of Senior and Superintendent Physiotherapists.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* Good spoken and written English.
* Experience working with the general public and with individuals who have disabilities.
* Good communication skills and ability to prioritise work.
* Computer skills; training in local systems will be provided.
Desirable
* ECDL or equivalent level computer skills.
* Previous NHS experience or experience as a Therapy Assistant.
* Knowledge of physiotherapy and ability to work in a team.
