Job summary
The HSDU (Sterile Services) department is an enthusiastic team working in a busy, fast-paced environment. The department reprocesses surgical instruments for the Trust and surrounding areas. It operates from 6am to 10pm, Monday to Friday. Recently, two new operating theatres have opened at the Alexandra Hospital to address the backlog of waiting lists following the Covid pandemic, creating more Sterile Services Assistant opportunities within the HSDU department. The available shift is 2pm to 6pm, Monday to Friday. The department offers a six-month on-the-job training program, with potential future qualifications such as NVQ. Opportunities for progression to Supervisor and possibly future managerial roles are available.
Annual leave entitlement starts at 27 days plus Bank Holidays
After 5 years: 29 days + Bank Holidays
After 10 years: 33 days + Bank Holidays
Main duties of the job
The role involves collecting used surgical instruments, preparing them for sterilisation, reassembling instrument trays, inspecting for cleanliness and damage, wrapping instruments, sterilising, and delivering reprocessed instruments.

Job responsibilities
Perform duties within the Sterile Services Department, including cleaning, inspecting, testing, assembling, checking, packing, sterilising theatre and ward instruments, and delivering items to wards, departments, and theatres.

Qualifications
* Recognised qualification in Sterile Services (IDSC, NVQ, or similar)
Experience
* Previous experience in Sterile Services or a clean room manufacturing/hospital setting
