Job Name - Transport Assistant
Reports to - Head of Transport
Salary & hours - 20 days holiday (increasing 1 day for each year worked up to a maximum of 25) + bank holidays 40 working hour week with flexible starting times
Location - Harlow – Riverview house
Job Purpose
As transport assistant you are able to direct and control allocated areas of transport activity, meeting defined objectives and day-to-day operational requirements. To contribute to the identification and exploitation of improvement opportunities on an ongoing basis. Supporting the Transport manager on day-to-day compliance and running of the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
* To ensure the smooth running of the allocated transport activity, ensuring appropriate resources (people, equipment) are available to meet demand.
* Ensure compliance to all relevant legislation affecting transport operations.
* You will be required to assist in managing a Nationwide fleet of vehicles and drivers.
* Maintain and enhance effective working relationships with drivers and transport staff.
* Ensure staff follow processes and procedures relating to the Transport operation.
* Monitoring driver performance levels, providing feedback to the Transport manager and helping to identify improvement opportunities.
* Ensure vehicle maintenance schedules are adhered too as well as managing daily defects
* Ensure all maintenance work and repairs are completed on time, with labour, parts costs and compliance paperwork uploaded accurately onto the Fleet Management System (Fleetcheck) prior to closing down job.
* Tacho downloads and analysis for all drivers and vehicles
* Flexibility of working time, with regular travel to New Era depots ensuring drivers have adequate resource.
* Liaise with drivers on a regular basis ensuring the daily operation runs as smoothly as possible.
Person Specification
* Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and adhering to strict KPI's
* You'll be computer literate and be competent using Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Outlook.
* Good organisational attributes are key.
* Strong people management skills, and the ability to work with different personality types
* Flexible with a supportive attitude
* Able to work under pressure and multi-task
* An understanding of EU drivers' hours rules and regulations, desired
* Good communication skills and attention to detail.
* Full UK driving licence
* A Professional approach, reliable and dependable with good time keeping skills
* The ability to people manage and undertake 1-2-1 meetings.
* 2+ years' experience working within the transport industry, desirable
* Able to Supervise a team of employees with the support of the Transport department.
* Understanding of ADR desirable but not essential
