Location: The Learning Experience - Leatherhead

Purpose of Role:

Supports with the day to day operation of the nursery. Undertakes suitable person responsibilities, including all operational and regulatory aspects. Lead, mentor, and coach a team of early years professionals while managing daily operations. Ensure high standards of health, safety, care, and education for children and families. As Centre Director, you are responsible for the overall operation, growth, and development of the nursery, fostering a collaborative environment aligned with the vision to LEARN, PLAY, and GROW!


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:


PEOPLE LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

* Recruit and retain qualified staff, ensuring compliance with Safer Recruitment processes, and build external talent networks.
* Work with HR to ensure full staffing, diversity, thorough induction, training, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Manage employment documentation and support staff performance through appraisals, supervision, and feedback.
* Oversee the implementation of the TLE curriculum and monitor teaching quality.
* Lead, mentor, and inspire staff to deliver outstanding care and education, ensuring EYFS compliance and assessment practices.
* Support children’s development and access to additional services as needed.
* Ensure statutory requirements are met, manage staffing ratios, and prepare for OFSTED inspections.
* Promote the nursery to families, support retention, and work on occupancy growth.
* Drive nursery performance, revenue, and cost efficiency to meet budget targets.


HEALTH AND SAFETY AND SAFEGUARDING

* Maintain health and safety standards for children and staff.
* Act as Lead Designated Safeguarding Person, ensuring safeguarding policies are in place and followed.
* Make referrals to external agencies as needed and ensure compliance with legislation.
* Promote positive behaviour management and health and safety practices.
* Carry out regular safety checks and ensure statutory compliance.


CUSTOMER FOCUS

* Lead tours for prospective families, highlighting key features.
* Maintain regular communication with families about children’s progress.
* Ensure quality of parent communication and record-keeping.
* Manage relationships with authorities and conduct evaluations.
* Oversee medication management and emergency procedures.

Experience Essential:

* Proven professional development since qualifying.
* At least 3 years managing an early years setting, preferably an Outstanding nursery.
* Experience leading Ofsted inspections and driving performance management.
* Strong leadership, decision-making, and team development skills.
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements, quality improvement, and business management.


Skills and Competencies:

* Excellent communication with adults and children.
* Leadership in change management and team cohesion.
* Motivated, proactive, and able to work under pressure.
* Empathetic, fair, and trustworthy.
* Effective time management and ICT skills.


Qualifications Essential:

* Level 3 qualification in childcare or related field.
* Paediatric First Aid and First Aid at Work.
* Safeguarding/Child Protection training.
* Continuous professional development evidence.


Qualifications Desirable:

* Degree or Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies or similar.
* EYPP/EYTT or QTS postgraduate status.
* Driving license and flexibility to travel.
* Current Paediatric First Aid and Fire Marshall Training.
