Locum Consultant Paediatrician - Paediatric A&E

A Locum Consultant with a specialist interest in paediatric accident and emergency care and/or ambulatory care, the appointee will be responsible for the smooth, efficient and effective running of the Paediatric Emergency Department at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children (QMHC).
The primary focus of this post will be clinical care within the Paediatric Emergency Department. However, responsibilities will also include the supervision and training of junior staff, undergraduate and postgraduate education, and involvement in audit and research.
Main duties of the job
Principal Duties of the Post
The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients.
* To support the effective and efficient running of the department.
* To provide regular paediatric resuscitation training for paediatric staff, in liaison with the resuscitation department.
* To contribute to the development and implementation of cross-site paediatric A&E protocols.
* To comply at all times with the GMC's guidance on Good Medical Practice.
* To ensure patient confidentiality is upheld at all times.
* To undertake duties as defined in the attached job plan, subject to agreement with the Clinical Director.
* To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
* To attend the Trust's Corporate Induction (or Consultant Induction) on commencement.
* To participate in all Statutory and Mandatory training programmes.
* To provide clinical management for inpatients and outpatients under your care.

Job responsibilities
Teaching and Training
* To share responsibility with other consultants for the recruitment, appointment, and supervision of junior medical staff, in line with Trust policies.
* To provide regular teaching and training to junior staff, contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education.
* To participate in the teaching and training of medical students in accordance with arrangements agreed with the relevant medical school or Foundation School.
Management and Clinical Governance
* To manage, appraise and, where appropriate, discipline junior doctors under your supervision, with advice where necessary.
* To maintain personal and professional development, including registration with your Royal College for CME/CPD and compliance with its requirements.
* To advise the Executive Team, Trust Board, GPs, and other stakeholders on local, regional, and national clinical service planning, within appropriate confidentiality constraints.
* To support current management structures and frameworks.
* To fully participate in Clinical Governance across the Trust, including clinical audit, quality improvement, and research where applicable.
* To take part in annual consultant appraisal and job planning.
* To adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
* To respect and observe the Trusts intellectual property rights.
Proposed Job Plan
A proposed job plan is attached. This will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate on appointment.
Job plans are reviewed annually as part of the appraisal process. The plan is a prospective agreement outlining the consultants typical working pattern, clinical and non-clinical duties, objectives, and responsibilities. It will include all aspects of professional practice: clinical work, education, training, research, management, and any agreed external commitments.
Additional programmed activities may be offered, depending on service needs and alignment with Trust priorities. These will be reviewed annually.
