We are currently looking for a Design Engineer to join our growing team in Heywood on a permanent contract.

As our Design Engineer, you will be part of the engineering team of a long-established business, delivering projects and developing market leading solutions that benefit our extensive client base. This is an excellent opportunity to shape and influence the design of high value capital projects.

This is a full-time and permanent role, 38 hour per week.

Location

Our clean, bright 63,000 sq. ft. site in Heywood, Lancashire is the largest containment factory in the North West, just minutes from the M66 and M62. We have invested £1m in our facility, with state-of-the-art machinery and excellent staff facilities including showers, canteen and plenty of on-site parking.

Your Role

As the Design Engineer, you will design standard and bespoke containment and clean air equipment. You’ll work closely with the wider engineering team to lead and develop the mechanical design and detailed drawings of capital equipment for highly regulated industries.

Specifically, you will:

* Produce standard and bespoke designs for fume cupboards and LEV equipment
* Work closely with the Sales Team to offer concept design solutions during quotation and tender process
* Work closely with others in the Engineering Team to help develop new products and improve existing designs
* Drive design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly best practices
* Create General Arrangement drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials
* Ensure product designs comply with regulatory requirements such as BS EN 14175 and HSG258


About You

To join us, you will need:

* Proven experience as a mechanical design engineer, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working specifically within the industrial and educational products sectors
* Experience in working with fume cupboards, laboratory containment devices and fume extraction systems
* Proven experience in working on projects from concept through to final detail design and support to downstream processes
* Proven experience using Solidworks 3D and/or AutoCad 2D design software
* Proven ability to produce GAs, 3D models, detailed drawings, & BoMs
* The ability to build long standing customer relationships
* Strong problem solving skills with a good attention to detail
* The ability to plan, schedule and coordinate effectively
* To be self-motivated with a strong results driven approach
* To maintain knowledge of all relevant processes and procedures to ensure appropriate compliance with any regulatory requirements
* The ability to come up with creative approaches for generating new ideas and improving existing processes, products or designs

The following would also be beneficial:

* Understanding of flat pattern development
* Experience of sheet metal design and fabrication
* Experience of Sage Manufacturing
* Experience and understanding of BS EN 14175 & HSG258
