We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work at the Ashford Common - TW15 1RU Water production site.

As a successful candidate, you will use your mechanical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision. Your work will help ensure all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers and contribute to Thames Water’s environmental impact by reducing pollution from our sites.


Responsibilities

* Work on various pumps involved in water transfer within water treatment works and transmission of water throughout the network, as well as smaller chemical dosing pumps.
* Investigate mechanical plant failures and carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions for our customers.
* Investigate and diagnose complex faults and carry out repairs during incidents.
* Carry out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures to improve plant resilience.
* Provide technical advice to the wider team, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
* Participate in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby rota after a suitable period of training and assessment.


Working Pattern

Base Location: Ashford Common - TW15 1RU.
38 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus standby rota payments and overtime opportunities. Earnings can increase by up to a further £8,000‑£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.


What you should bring to the role

* Time‑served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical systems or possessing an NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering.
* Problem solver, able to identify potential issues, implement solutions or escalations.
* Excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
* Resilient, adapting to pressure of work and a constantly changing environment.
* Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative, to design to standards.
* Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry.
* Team player who works in many different teams, shows respect for others, provides helpful feedback and supports development of others.
* Full UK driving licence.
