Overview
A Vacancy at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join the current team of 4 Electrophysiology Consultants in contributing towards the provision and development of the Electrophysiology service within the region. The Lancashire Cardiac Centre (LCC) serves a population of 1.8 million across The Lake District / South Cumbria and Lancashire including The Fylde Coast, Blackpool, Preston, The Ribble Valley, Blackburn & Burnley. There are 2 cath labs out of 5 currently set up for EP, providing a high volume of approximately 800 procedures performed annually. The post holder will have experience and be independent in performing both simple and complex electrophysiology procedures. The unit has all three mapping tools – Biosense Webster, Abbott and Boston Scientific. Available single shot technology includes Cryo and Laser Balloon Ablation. Experience and willingness to further develop skills will be supported. We value teaching and research. The successful candidate can contribute towards the weekly teaching and supervision of trainees. The cardiology department delivers a regional tertiary cardiology service, and the successful candidate will join the existing 21 consultant cardiologists in helping deliver a first‑class regional service. The post holder will also be expected to deliver general cardiology as consultant of the week on a rotational basis as well as weekend cover as part of a seven‑day consultant led service.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Provide procedural EP lab activities for both simple and complex procedures, using mapping tools (Biosense Webster, Abbott, Boston Scientific) and single‑shot technology (Cryo and Laser Balloon Ablation).
* Conduct weekly outpatient department (OPD2) consultations.
* Participate in weekly ward rounds.
* Fulfill on‑call duties, including 1:10 Saturday and Sunday, 0.3‑hour AM cover, and 0.7‑hour on‑call periods as outlined in the job plan.
* Serve as consultant of the week on a rotational basis.
* Provide patient administration support on a weekly basis (1.5‑hour commitment).
* Flexibly cover colleague leave and on‑call duties in the EP lab.
* Engage in training and teaching, research, audit, job planning/appraisal, and continuing professional development (CPD).

Cardiac Unit Overview
The Cardiac Unit comprises the Cardiothoracic Unit and the Cardiology Directorate. The Division is housed in a £50 million purpose‑built hospital comprising 4 catheter laboratories, 4 Cardiac and Thoracic Theatres, with potential to expand to 5, dedicated outpatient and non‑invasive Cardiac Physiology investigation unit, 20 day‐case beds, 20 cardiac intensive care beds and 89 ward beds. The Cardiology Directorate includes 2 wards – 37 and 39 for Cardiology patients and 4 Catheter Laboratories with day‐case facilities.
