Overview
This role is based in Gravesend with full and part time options. It has a fixed base location with an expectation to travel to other offices within the Region (North Kent) as operational delivery requires. A travel allowance is provided at the relevant financial year rate and terms of contract. The role requires a flexible approach with start times from 7.00 AM and finish time of 16.45 PM and will include weekend shifts. A working pattern must include at least one weekend day with alternative days to be agreed with the successful candidate. A typical full time 37-hour week will consist of 4 days at 9.25 hours per day and must include one weekend day; remaining days are to be discussed based on operational delivery needs. A valid Manual driving licence is required.
Overview of the job: This is an operational role directly supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence. This may include driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment. The post holder will be responsible for all work site supervision tasks and will work with service users to ensure that all tasks are carried out to the best of their ability, including demonstrating good practice as necessary. The role contributes to the rehabilitative potential of the sentence and supports some service users to gain employment skills through positive work experience with opportunities for vocational or skills-based training. Staff are expected to contribute towards review and evaluation of service delivery and to foster a culture of continuous improvement. The work may involve working alongside volunteers or staff from partner organisations. Notice: Some duties may be adjusted; significant adjustments may require re-examination under the Job Evaluation Scheme and will be discussed with the job holder. An ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through English (or Welsh where specified).

The role may involve weekend work as part of the normal pattern. The MoJ offers hybrid working arrangements where business need allows, subject to regular review. Nationally advertised roles may be assigned to a MoJ office location which may include the nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office.
Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
* Conduct Pre-Placement Unpaid Work Induction sessions.
* Conduct a start of the day toolbox talk to ensure service users understand the task, safe working practice, and to motivate and support completion of their Order.
* Follow work directions within the project placement file.
* Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed, alerting relevant staff to risks and ensuring related paperwork is completed accurately and on time, including contributing to placement risk assessments.
* Ensure appropriate tools, equipment and supplies are available and that safe-use instructions are followed by service users.
* Conduct dynamic risk assessments to identify and manage hazards.
* Use pro-social and motivational techniques to maintain discipline and productive work.
* Monitor attendance of service users allocated to agency placements and promote successful completion.
* Maintain records in accordance with organisational requirements and update the case management system timely and accurately.
* Work towards accreditation as a workplace assessor or deliver training assessments for service users within the supervised work group to provide enhanced learning opportunities.
* Contribute towards promoting Community Payback with colleagues, external agencies, Sentencers and the public.

Qualifications & Requirements
* Experience of Practical Skills
* UK Manual Driving Licence - Category D1 Minibus
* Evidence of commitment to teamwork
* Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise people constructively while maintaining authority
* Evidence of problem-solving within a workplace or similar environment
* Knowledge of safety at work, public protection and risk of harm in all aspects of work
* Basic knowledge of First Aid and willingness to undertake further training
* To attain IOSH L3 or equivalent and a willingness to attend further training
* Willing to achieve and maintain L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent
* Ability to model pro-social attitudes and behaviour to service users
* Good written communication skills
* Evidence of ability to work in a role requiring service user supervision and adherence to professional standards
