The department provides a comprehensive service for patients with gastrointestinal and liver disorders from Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, both at district level and as a tertiary centre. The Cardiff Crohn’s and Colitis clinic offers a regional IBD service. The appointee will join four other Consultants with an IBD interest, supported by IBD specialist and infusion nurses, a specialist GI dietician, and links to the Intestinal Failure team. There are regular IBD radiology MDTs, biologics reviews, business meetings, and combined adolescent IBD clinics with the Paediatric Gastroenterologists. There are strong links with Cardiff University’s School of Medicine.

Responsibilities

* Work in a dedicated multidisciplinary IBD team across UHB.
* Participate in a rota for weekend GI retrieval and ward reviews and a 1 in 14 emergency endoscopy rota.
* Review all new GI and liver admissions daily.
* Not participate in the general medical on‑call rota.

Qualifications

Applicants must provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of employment/training history. If currently or most recently employed as a substantive or locum Consultant for more than 12 months, an additional referee – the Medical Director – must also be named.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of the expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Application Information

Applicants may apply in Welsh; applications in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than those in English.

The UHB reserves the right to close this vacancy after 24 hours if a large number of suitable applications are received, so early application is encouraged.

Successful applicants will receive all recruitment related correspondence via the email account registered on the application form.

To work in the UK, all candidates who are not UK or Republic of Ireland nationals require sponsorship to obtain either a Health and Care visa or a Skilled Worker visa, unless they have permission to work via another route. Non‑UK/RoI candidates should self‑assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship.

Compensation

The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 per annum to £160,951 per annum. Applicants will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales.
