Senior Electronics Workshop Technician required to provide high-quality technical support for research and teaching groups within the school of EPS. The role involves providing design, construction, and fabrication support for specialized bespoke laboratory systems and equipment.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of post-apprentice experience in a workshop environment, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact positively with a broad range of people.
Key responsibilities include:
* Design, production, and fabrication of electronic analogue and digital circuits and equipment.
* Investigating novel techniques and materials to support research project outputs.
* Working closely with academic, research, and other technical staff to develop bespoke electronics and electrical solutions.
* Providing technical support to students on the design of equipment.
* Diagnosing faults and undertaking repairs/maintenance on control and measurement equipment.
Essential criteria include:
* Educated to SCQF Level 7-8, HNC/HND, or equivalent in electrical engineering.
* Completion of a recognized electronics workshop apprenticeship plus ideally 3-5 years’ post-qualification work experience.
* Expert-level knowledge of electronic design skills.
* Good planning, team, communication, and organizational skills.
Desirable criteria include:
* Electronics degree.
* Experience of teaching and managing a class of students.
* Experience of laser cutting, 3D printing, and small hand tools.
