Senior psychologist

Basingstoke
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Posted: 18 August
Offer description

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Psychologist to be at the forefront of the development of the CAMHS Learning Disability/Autism service across Hampshire. We are looking for a psychologist to work alongside the clinical lead and other disciplines to develop the psychological offer for the young people we work with. The post holder will support the development of pathways and help shape the team culture. Providing supervision, training, and leadership will be integral to the role. You will join a skilled and compassionate team to build a service from the ground up, ensuring children and families receive best practice mental health and behavioural care.

You will be part of the county-wide child psychology team, contributing to service improvement and compassionate care, with psychology at the core of our work. There are opportunities for further training, and we have strong links with Southampton University offering placements for trainee clinical psychologists.

We consider offering this as a Band 7 to 8a development post. If taken as a preceptorship, a career development plan will outline the competencies needed for transition to an 8a role. A senior psychologist will support your development.

Role Responsibilities:

1. Provide assessments, formulations, and interventions for children and young people with moderate to severe Learning Disabilities and complex mental health/behavioural needs, using individual and group interventions aligned with their goals.
2. Develop the consultation offer for the wider CAMHS service for young people with mild Learning Disabilities or complex neurodevelopmental needs.
3. Collaborate with agencies to develop and implement interventions and care plans, ensuring smooth service transitions.
4. Contribute to developing and delivering clinical care pathways.
5. Participate in the MDT by providing consultation, supervision, and enhancing psychological knowledge within the team.
6. Support the leadership team in developing innovative practices and engaging in clinical governance.
7. Supervise and support the development of psychologists and therapists, including trainees from the University of Southampton.
8. Utilize research skills for audit, service development, and research activities within the team.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is a newly established organization with over 12,000 staff across more than 200 sites, offering comprehensive healthcare services including mental health, learning disabilities, community, and physical health care. We are committed to compassionate, respectful, and excellent care, fostering staff development and well-being. Join us to make a meaningful difference in our communities.
