Consultant in Diagnostic Neuroradiology

This position is to maintain and support development and expansion of the Diagnostic Neuroradiology service within Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It is based in the Radiology Department and covers Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital. The role is permanent, and offers the opportunity to join our regional neurosciences centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
The adult Neurology department is staffed by 12 Consultant neurologists, and there are 2 paediatric neurologists who have links with Central Manchester Childrens Hospital. The Neurosurgery department is staffed by 12 Consultant neurosurgeons, providing a comprehensive adult neurosurgical service. The department is expanding its personnel and equipment, including state‑of‑the‑art CT, PET‑CT, hybrid interventional theatre, and a new 3T MRI scanner suite.
You will be expected to provide a comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology service and support the 9 existing neuroradiologists (4 of whom perform neuro‑intervention) and 2 head and neck radiologists.
Candidates seeking less than full‑time hours are encouraged to apply. If unable to work full‑time for personal reasons, the job plan will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with colleagues.
The applicant should hold or be eligible for CCT within 6 months of interview.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology service and support the 9 existing neuroradiologists, 4 of whom perform neuro‑intervention, along with advanced neuro‑imaging and head and neck radiology reporting and MDT presentation.
* Play an active role in planning, development and delivery of the neuroradiology service for the Directorate and associated Network, including ongoing teaching of SPRs who rotate through attachments within the Trust.
* Support diagnostic neuroradiology colleagues in both IP and OP MRI/CT reporting. Close working with colleagues in the wider neurosciences and radiology department is expected as part of daily work.
* A subspecialist interest in head & neck radiology is desirable. In addition to reporting cross‑sectional head and neck imaging, the post holder can partake in the network thyroid and head & neck cancer MDTs and also perform neck ultrasound and FNAs/core biopsies.
* An interest in PET CT would be supported.
* Provide support for the local and Network neuroradiology MDTs.
There are also substantial opportunities for development or maintenance of other subspecialist interests.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the neuroradiology on‑call rota with 1:9 frequency.
Experience in head and neck radiology and advanced neuroimaging techniques is highly desirable.

The Radiology Directorate comprises Radiology, Neuroradiology, Ultrasound, Vascular (general) Interventional Radiology, Chest Radiology, Nuclear Medicine (including SPECT scanning and Oncological Radiology). Mammography is performed at the Chorley and South Ribble Hospital site. Additional scanning and service provision is also provided at the Preston Healthport site.
Recent major service developments include accreditation as a major trauma centre and designation as a tertiary vascular centre.

Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration and License to Practice
* MBBS or equivalent
* FRCR or equivalent
* CCST in Radiology or eligible registration equivalents
* CCT within 6 months
* Fellowship in Diagnostic neuroradiology from an accredited training scheme
* Subspecialist training in Head & Neck/ENT radiology
* Experience of advanced neuro‑imaging techniques
Experience & Skills
* Wide experience in diagnostic neuroradiology and MDT work in a tertiary neurosciences centre
* Experience presenting in neuroradiology MDTs in a tertiary neurosciences centre
* Recent experience of on‑call working
* Examples of commitment to working as part of a clinical team
* Ability to perform neck ultrasound and guided interventions
* Teaching skills for both medical and paramedical disciplines
Management
* Evidence of clinical leadership
* Evidence of commitment to audit and improving clinical practice/service development
* Ability to supervise and direct junior medical staff and other colleagues
* Management course or certification
