Vacancy: HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist – Haematology & Transfusion
This is a 9‑month secondment, full‑time role at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) hub laboratory in Haematology and Transfusion. The successful candidate will work as part of the Biomedical Scientist teams at the hub laboratory, delivering a 24/7 laboratory service.
Responsibilities
* Oversee and run daily test procedures on all methodologies, including calibration, quality control testing, and sign off as fit for clinical use.
* Ensure the team processes both urgent and routine work to maintain routine turnaround times in line with Trust and Service policies.
* Fault find equipment and analysers, and take appropriate action to ensure they are operational and fit for purpose.
* Participate in out‑of‑hours rosters at NNUH in haematology and transfusion.
* Input and amend patient data and results, incorporating work from other colleagues and specimen reception.
* Provide education and training for medical staff, clinical scientists, other biomedical scientists, trainee biomedical scientists, MLAs and visiting students within laboratory haematology.
* Demonstrate ongoing competence by attending courses, lectures, mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and other training activities.
* Communicate complex clinical scientific test information to managers, consultants, nurses, other health‑care colleagues, patients and patient carers.
* Answer telephone inquiries from pathology users, patients and patient carers about test results, providing highly complex information about methodologies and service requirements.
* Interpret results and reassure users that the information is correct when results do not agree with clinical presentation, investigating and problem‑solving in the specialist field.
* Manage own work and day‑to‑day routine work in specialised services, maintaining routine turnaround times in line with Trust and Service policy.
Qualifications
* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
* Experience as an independent practitioner in both Haematology and Transfusion.
* Transfusion experience essential; morphology experience desirable.
