Summary of Process Safety Engineer role
Based at our site in Cramlington, Northumberland, the Process Safety Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the safety of our process operations on plant.

Reporting to the Process Safety Manager, you will actively participate in and track hazard reviews and process safety risk assessments, providing expert technical input and practical guidance to support safe, reliable, and compliant operations.
Responsibilities
* Support compliance with COMAH Regulations, DSEAR 2002, ATEX and the process safety management system, including updating sections of the COMAH Safety Report.
* Support major accident hazard identification and risk assessment processes, including Haz 0-7 study processes, QRA, LOPA, SIL, OBRA, etc.
* Contribute to process safety risk assessments, including selection, installation, operation of equipment, inspection/maintenance considerations.
* Monitor compliance with site Hazardous Substance Consent (HSC) regarding substance volume tracking.
* Review and develop process safety relevant procedures; contribute to creation/revision of other procedures as required.
* Provide input into site emergency response arrangements, particularly emergency response ‘pre-plans’.
* Prepare and revise permitting/licence documentation relevant to process safety such as COMAH safety report, aspects of EPR permit and hazardous substances consent issues, monitor improvement actions.
* Prepare for interventions with regulatory authorities such as HSE, Local Authority and EA as required.
* Conduct workplace inspections, audits and investigations as required.
* Represent EHS at engineering handovers and modification reviews, participate in design reviews on engineering flow diagrams.
* Investigate issues & topics, prepare and present investigation reports and suggest possible actions.
Key Skills and Competencies
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (chemical/process engineering) with desirable chartered membership of a relevant institution.
* Safety qualification desirable (e.g., NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma) or willingness to work toward process safety qualification.
* Demonstratable experience in a manufacturing/production environment desirable.
* Understanding and appreciation of major accident legislation such as COMAH, with ability to contribute to hazard identification and risk assessment processes.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and help develop practical and proportionate solutions to process safety issues.
* Prioritisation and time-management skills to balance active and reactive workloads.
We also require candidates to be competent with IT systems, particularly Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
