Purpose of the Role The Calibration Technician plays a key role in delivering high-quality calibration and instrumentation services within a regulated, mission-critical environment.
During the initial project phase, you will support the principal contractor in developing site documentation, procedures, and calibration processes aligned with client and regulatory requirements.
Once the site is fully operational, the role transitions into steady-state delivery, focusing on:
1. Day-to-day calibration service delivery
2. Maintenance and control of critical test equipment
3. Coordination of third-party calibration providers
4. Ensuring system accuracy, availability, and compliance
Key Responsibilities Calibration & Instrumentation Services
5. Deliver end-to-end calibration across control and instrumentation systems
6. Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and client-requested calibration activities
7. Diagnose and rectify faults on field instrumentation and process systems
Procedures, Planning & Maintenance
8. Develop, implement, and maintain calibration procedures and maintenance strategies
9. Define and manage equipment tolerances across plant and process systems
10. Maintain appropriate test equipment and calibration workspace standards
11. Maximise plant and equipment availability through effective PPM regimes
Technical & Project Support
12. Provide technical input during projects, commissioning, and system handovers
13. Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and A3 problem-solving investigations
14. Initiate and manage Permits to Work (PTW) in line with site procedures
15. Produce clear, actionable technical reports and documentation
Asset, Spares & Supplier Management
16. Identify and manage spare parts requirements and stock levels
17. Raise purchase requests and support procurement activities
18. Coordinate dispatch and return of equipment with third-party calibration providers
19. Ensure all work orders are completed within CMMS and contractual timescales
Collaboration & Operational Support
20. Work closely with the Systems Manager and site leadership team
21. Provide cross-functional technical support across teams and projects
22. Support operational objectives and continuous improvement initiatives
Accountability
23. Reporting to: Systems Manager

26. Budget Responsibility: None (requires financial awareness)
Skills & Experience Essential
27. Formal apprenticeship in Calibration & Instrumentation
28. HNC / HND (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline
29. Minimum 3 years’ experience in calibration within regulated environments (e.g. pharmaceutical, food, laboratory, or critical industries)
30. Proven experience writing and maintaining calibration procedures
31. Strong understanding of instrumentation and control systems
32. Experience using CMMS systems
Desirable
33. cGxP training for regulated environments
34. Experience in mission-critical or high-compliance industries
35. Familiarity with A3 / RCA methodologies
