Looking to step into a key role within a growing rail infrastructure team where you can lead projects and mentor engineers?
Salary: £55,000 to £75,000 (depending on experience and if principal/associate)
Location: Cardiff, 3 days in office per week
I am working with a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to appoint a Principal or Associate Engineer into their Cardiff-based civils and structures team. With a strong pipeline of rail and infrastructure work secured, this is a key hire to support both technical delivery and team development.
You will join a collaborative office environment, working closely with senior leadership while supporting and developing junior engineers. This role offers a balance of hands‑on technical work, leadership and client exposure.
Essential requirements
* Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStructE) - essential for design sign‑off
* Strong background in bridge design (rail preferred, highways also considered)
* Solid experience in structural engineering, particularly steel and concrete
* Experience leading or mentoring engineers
* Ability to undertake and review detailed engineering calculations
* Strong understanding of relevant design standards and best practice
Desirable
* Rail sector experience
* Temporary works design experience
* CRE experience (or willingness to work towards)
* Experience in multidisciplinary project environments
You will work across a diverse portfolio of projects including bridge design and refurbishment, station upgrades, minor works frameworks, airport infrastructure and temporary works schemes.
