Job Description
The Department of Medicine is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Accounts Manager to join its busy finance team. The post-holder will be responsible for 2-3 direct reports and will manage a varied range of financial activities across the whole Department. This will include the monitoring of complex general ledger accounts and an expanding multi-million-pound research budget built from many different funding streams, whilst adhering to strict financial policies.
The Department of Medicine is the largest within the School of Clinical Medicine and is based in various buildings across the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The Department houses 4 sections, with around 300 active grants across them. Research is the major focus of the Department; however, we are also heavily involved in clinical student education and run successful MPhil and PhD programmes.
Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will be a key member of the Department's finance team and will therefore have excellent communication skills and be able to work confidently with a wide range of people both within and outside of the University.
Candidates should possess either an accountancy qualification such as AAT or relevant skills and financial management experience. They will ideally have line management experience and also have experience working with research grants and funding bodies. Often working under pressure, they will be able to manage their time effectively and maintain a high standard of accuracy. This is a varied and interesting new appointment, which will appeal to anyone seeking a career in University financial management.
The role is based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, and the successful candidate will adopt the Department's hybrid working model.
This post is offered on a fixed-term basis in the first instance, covering a secondment to 30th September 2026, with the potential for a longer-term extension after this date.
