Early Years SEND Teaching Assistant – Newcastle We’re on the lookout for a compassionate, proactive, and nurturing Early Years SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming early years team in Newcastle. In this role, you’ll work closely with children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), helping them access learning through tailored support, structured routines, and meaningful, play-based experiences. What You’ll Be Doing: Providing 1:1 or small group support to children with SEND, including autism, speech and language needs, developmental delays, or sensory processing differences Working alongside the class teacher and SENCO to help deliver individual support plans and EHCP targets Adapting learning activities and environments to meet children’s specific needs Supporting children’s development of communication, social, and self-help skills Monitoring and recording progress, behaviour, and engagement to contribute to ongoing assessment and reviews Helping to create an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning space for all What We’re Looking For: Experience supporting young children with SEND (e.g., autism, speech & language delay, global developmental delay) A caring, patient, and resilient nature Good understanding of the EYFS framework and early childhood development Confidence in building strong, trusting relationships with children, families, and staff Relevant Early Years, Childcare, or SEND qualifications (Level 2 or 3) are desirable A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children What You’ll Get from Us: A warm, inclusive, and supportive school environment Ongoing training and CPD, including SEND strategies, PECS, Makaton, and behaviour support The chance to make a real, lasting difference to the lives of children with additional needs A collaborative, friendly staff team where your contribution is genuinely valued Ready to apply?
