The opportunity:
Are you an experienced Medical Underwriter looking for a new challenge? Zurich Corporate Risk, one of the fastest-growing group risk providers in the market, started over 10 years ago and has continued to grow steadily. To support our growth, we are seeking a Medical Underwriter passionate about medicine and delivering exceptional customer service. You will assess life and income protection applications and make underwriting decisions for members of new and existing corporate schemes.
You will join a small, inclusive, and supportive Underwriting Team committed to your development. What will you be doing?
* Make medical underwriting decisions for life and income protection within authority limits and in line with Zurich’s underwriting philosophy.
* Provide technical medical underwriting support and guidance to customers and distributors, ensuring excellent customer service.
* Train and support team members, including administrative staff and junior underwriters.
* Stay updated with medical underwriting philosophy considering experience and market conditions.
* Enhance process effectiveness and efficiency using best practices.
* Deliver against key business, team, and individual KPIs.
* Liaise with Medical Officers and reassurance companies.
* Maintain external distributor relationships.
* Handle queries and referrals within authority limits, assessing risk and maintaining standards.
* Identify process improvement opportunities.
* Ensure compliance and governance across the team.
* Share best practices and provide excellent service to customers and stakeholders.
* Contribute to a positive team culture with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
* Own workload and support colleagues to deliver team objectives.
Who are we looking for?
* An experienced medical underwriter with experience in protection or corporate environments.
* Some awareness of the UK corporate risk market.
* Knowledge of medical underwriting philosophies, techniques, regulations, and guidelines.
* Ability to assess risk effectively with good judgment and decision-making skills.
* Strong attention to detail and focus on quality.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and team contribution.
* Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.
* Passionate about customer service and continuous improvement.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* CII Diploma in Underwriting or equivalent is preferred but not essential.
