Job Description
Reporting to - Principal Engineer
Shift Patterns - Days only (Mon-Fri)
Purpose
UTAC’s engine testing department features a plethora of equipment for a wide variety of testing applications, including engine, vehicle and driveline systems. From measuring legislative gaseous emissions to electronic drive unit battery simulators. This range of equipment requires frequent maintenance, servicing, calibration and repair as required. The Powertrain Facilities Technician has a critical role in ensuring both planned and reactive technical support is given in all aspects of the IC engines department.
Role & Responsibilities
1. Perform reactive repairs on a variety of test equipment.
2. Perform scheduled maintenance, servicing and calibration tasks on equipment.
3. Assist with developing engineering solutions to day-to-day technical issues faced by the engineering team when adopting test equipment. Typically, this will involve liaising with supporting staff; engineers, supervisors and the leadership team on a technical level.
4. Building and maintaining relationships with key suppliers
5. Order parts and maintaining stock of critical items
6. Risk assessments & method statements
7. Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times
Qualifications
8. City and Guild in Automotive or Engineering
9. HNC/HND an advantage, but time-served relevant experience is the overriding factor
Experience
10. Experience in a problem solving, practical role is a necessity
11. Test bed experience in an automotive testing environment
12. Experience supporting mechanical and electrical systems maintenance and calibration programmes.
13. Experience in delivering upgrade projects and dyno systems installation would be beneficial
14. Experience of AVL Puma, Horiba STARS and/or Kratzer PATools test automation systems is desirable.
15. Experience and knowledge of ISO17025 calibration is desirable
16. Knowledge of calibration, service and repair of emissions measurement equipment is advantageous.
