Are you an experienced housing professional with a passion for tackling homelessness and delivering high-quality housing services? A South London local authority is seeking a Head of Homelessness and Allocations to lead and transform its housing needs and homelessness services.
About the Role
This is a senior leadership position with a strong hands-on element. You will be the strategic lead for homelessness prevention, housing register assessments, rough sleeping initiatives, and the allocation of social housing. The role involves managing complex statutory responsibilities, driving service transformation, and ensuring compliance with legal and policy frameworks.
You will oversee:
Homelessness triage, prevention, and relief services
Single homelessness and rough sleeping strategies
Housing register assessments and social housing allocations
Temporary accommodation strategy and quality assurance
Working Arrangements
This is an office-based role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week on-site, with the likelihood of up to 5 days. Flexibility is essential as evening work will be required to attend meetings and community events.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop high-performing teams to deliver statutory housing duties
Drive service improvements and transformation projects within budget
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to meet housing targets
Ensure robust performance management and compliance with governance frameworks
Represent the authority in strategic partnerships and community engagement
What We're Looking For
Proven track record in senior housing management within a local authority or similar complex organisation
Expertise in homelessness prevention, housing options, and allocations
Strong leadership and team development skills
Excellent knowledge of housing legislation, policy, and financial management
Ability to work collaboratively and influence at all levels
