Position Overview
Deliver outpatient Rheumatology services to the local population served by the George Eliot Hospital Trust, sharing facilities and providing continuity of care for patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Full‑time Consultant Rheumatologist (10 Planned Activities).
* Collaborate with the other Rheumatologist in the Trust.
* Deliver direct clinical care and supporting programmed activities as outlined in the job plan (approximately 7.5‑8.5 Planned Activities for direct clinical care and 1.5‑2.5 Planned Activities for supporting programmed activities).
* Work with secretarial support from two band four secretaries and a band three team secretary, and collaborate with radiology (MRI, CT and ultrasound), pathology and operational management teams.
* Attend monthly Rheumatology team meetings and participate in weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings covering new biologicals, with the Rheumatology Pharmacist, Clinical Nurse Specialists and physiotherapy staff.
* Expand ultrasound scanning capabilities and train specialist nurses and doctors to focus on inflammatory arthritis, in partnership with local university links and onsite radiology mentors.
* Contribute to service development, encouraging and supporting special interests to grow and advance the team and service.
Job Plan
A formal job plan will be agreed soon after commencement. The plan sets out duties, responsibilities, and objectives, and will be reviewed periodically as part of the National Revalidation process. Annual consultant appraisals will be carried out accordingly.
Support and Resources
* Secretarial support from two band four secretaries and one band three team secretary.
* Access to radiology (MRI, CT, ultrasound), pathology services, and full operational support from General and Operational Managers.
* Balance between direct clinical care and supporting programmed activities will be agreed as part of initial job planning.
