The City Of York Council's Corporate Business Support Service Is Offering a Number Of Exciting Opportunities To Join The Team As a Business Support Assistant In The Below Areas
22.2 hours per week – permanent contract supporting the Specialist Teaching Team under the Education and Skills Directorate.
22.2 hours per week (Mon, Tue, Wed) – fixed term contract (to 23rd Oct 2026), supporting the Child Protection Conferences team within children's social care.
22.2 hours per week – fixed term contract (to end of March 2026) supporting the adult social care team.
What You'll Do
* Add and extract data from various databases and electronic case management systems.
* Monitor and manage shared mailboxes.
* Communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including parents.
* Support with financial requests such as purchase orders and new supplier processes.
* Maintain data and produce reports.
* Organise and minute meetings, ensuring papers are prepared and distributed in advance.
* Handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism at all times.
What We're Looking For
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
* Attention to detail to ensure accurate data entry.
* Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with various stakeholders.
* A knowledge of Purchasing process desirable but not essential.
* Comfortable using digital tools and open to learning new technology, including AI.
* A pro-active, detail-oriented approach and a commitment to supporting service delivery.

Although the roles are hybrid, during the initial training and induction period, the successful candidate will spend most of their time in the office.
Child protection conferences require the minute taker to be in attendance at West Offices and the nature of this role will involve highly confidential information about vulnerable service users, particularly in relation to child protection and safeguarding, therefore we recommend candidates consider this prior to applying.
