An exciting opportunity has arisen within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board for a dynamic and experienced leader to take on the role of Head of Data Platform & Analytics Engineering. This senior position will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the Health Board’s data and analytics strategy, leading the development of modern, cloud-based data platforms that enable high-quality, timely and actionable insights. The postholder will drive the design and optimisation of scalable data architecture, supporting advanced analytics, business intelligence, and the adoption of AI and machine-learning capabilities. Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide strategic and technical leadership across the full data platform and analytics engineering function, overseeing the design, development and optimisation of cloud-based data infrastructure. They will lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, secure and scalable data solutions, enabling the ingestion, transformation and analysis of complex healthcare data. The role will involve working closely with clinical, operational and digital stakeholders to translate organisational needs into effective technical solutions, supporting data-driven decision-making. The postholder will also be responsible for driving best practice in data engineering, governance and platform design, leading cloud migration and optimisation, and ensuring alignment with national programmes and standards. In addition, they will play a key role in developing organisational capability, fostering innovation, and embedding modern engineering and analytical approaches across the Health Board.

Qualifications and Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities
Essential Criteria
* Educated to Master’s level or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience
* Proven experience using GCP tools: BigQuery, Cloud Composer/Airflow, Cloud Run, Dataform, Dataplex
* Experience providing technical leadership in enterprise-scale cloud analytics platforms
* Advanced programming skills in Python and SQL
* Experience working in NHS / Health / Public Sector environment
* Experience translating complex clinical, operational and organisational requirements into platform design
* Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering and analytics teams and building technical capability
* Proven ability to lead cloud cost optimisation and financial planning activities
* Experience in developing and mentoring technical staff
* Experience contributing to national digital and data initiatives
* Exceptional leadership and influencing skills
* Ability to lead organisational and cultural change (digital/cloud transformation)
