Role Summary
We are seeking a Senior/Principal Engineering & Plant (Fixed Plant) Engineer to lead and support the technical delivery of rail engineering projects across the UK and internationally. To learn more about our rail business, visit https://www.wsp.com/en-GB/hubs/transit.
Responsibilities
* Lead the Fixed Plant aspects within larger multi‑disciplinary technical teams for a number of projects and support resolution of complex technical problems.
* Oversee and co‑ordinate the development of Fixed Plant designs across all stages of the design lifecycle.
* Provide technical advice to internal company disciplines as well as clients.
* Manage client and stakeholder relationships to achieve desired project outcomes.
* Potential to undertake CRE roles as required in accordance with NR/L2/INI/02009.
* Provide guidance, support and mentorship to Early Career Professionals.
Key Technical Activities
* Lead Fixed Plant Development Design, equivalent to the early ES Network Rail Levels, leading to Approval in Outline (AiO) and subsequently Approval in Principle (AiP).
* Lead Fixed Plant Detailed Design, equivalent to Network Rail Level ES5, suitable for Approved for Construction (AFC) Level.
* Apply the latest Industry Standards, particularly BS 7671 and NR/L2/ELP/21085, in the design of Railway Signalling Power, Lineside LV Power, Points Heating, Earthing and Bonding, Lighting and Station Electrical Systems.
* Prepare Electrical Circuit Diagrams and Calculations.
* Produce Fixed Plant Requirement Documents on behalf of Clients.
* Review Fixed Plant Specifications and Designs produced by others on behalf of Clients.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in delivery of more than one of the areas of expertise listed above.
* Experience across the full project lifecycle from initial feasibility studies to detailed design and implementation.
* Ability to manage multiple workstreams, balancing priorities, making value and delivery judgments/decisions to meet or exceed client expectations.
* Technical knowledge to challenge individuals and teams on outputs and deliverables.
* Chartered professional, or working towards chartership, with a relevant Institution and a track record of mentoring and developing staff.
* Experience of undertaking CRE roles or competency to do so.
* Understanding of Client Engineering assurance processes.
