An exciting opportunity has arisen for an authentic and visible senior operational leader to join the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) at London Ambulance Service as General Manager. We are looking for a high-energy individual with a forward-thinking, can-do attitude to join our Senior Leadership Team. As an integral member of the team, you will be a role model of inspirational leadership, managing a team of Watch Managers and a workforce of over 300 staff to deliver world-class care in high-pressure situations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maximising operational performance, improving culture through active employee engagement, and ensuring the effective delivery of emergency call handling and dispatch services. Initially, the successful candidate will be responsible for the Dispatch function, with a Health & Safety portfolio responsibility for Dockside EOC. You will collaborate closely with internal colleagues across Ambulance Services stakeholders to provide a consistent, integrated service for London. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced manager to lead a large-scale frontline operation while championing the wellbeing and development of our people.


Main duties of the job

* Meeting (and where possible improving on) key performance, quality and personaltargets contributing to the achievement of the Control Services Service Plan.
* 100% of Annual Performance Reviews, appraisals and Personal Development Planscompleted to time and in line with the agreed policy.
* Improving employee satisfaction results as measured by the Staff Survey,notably engagement and communications.
* Improving staff retention, attendance and the performance management of individual staff.
* Achieving the regulatory and Trust targets for completion of investigation and complaintsreports.
* Monitoring and critically reviewing investigation and complaints reports to provide robuststandards of quality and accuracy.
* Take mitigating actions and embedding learning from incidents, including taking actions toprevent any reoccurrence.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Experience

* Demonstrable current management experience at the same or similar level
* Setting and implementing long term plans to achieve objectives and targets
* Delivering and improving operational performance
* Managing change initiatives
* Establishing effective partnerships with trade unions at a local level
* Leading high performance teams
* Investigating and chairing conduct and attendance hearings when the potential outcome may be a final written warning
* Recent or current working in the NHS or in urgent service settings


Knowledge & Skills

* Demonstrating continuous personal development including leadership, organisation development and change management
* Planning and prioritising conflicting demands and often unpredictable work patterns
* Financial and budget management including budget setting
* Delivering services that demonstrate value for money and making economies where possible
* Able to be trained to drive under 'blue light' conditions and complete a'First Person on Scene' clinical course.


Personal Abilities

* Being accountable for results and actions and in turn, holding others to account
* Leading, inspiring, motivating, developing and managing teams of managers and c 400 staff in the day-to-day and situations of intense operational pressure and distressing emotional circumstances
* Communicating (orally and in writing), adapting the styles and messages to match the situation and audiences including delivering difficult information and at times, in distressing or emotional situations
* Highly developed persuading, influencing and negotiating skills to achieve beneficial outcomes
* Initiating, building and maintaining relationships with internal and external key stakeholders; developing partnerships and cooperative working
* Managing and having difficult conversations with managers and staff
