The School of Education has a large, well established and highly respected tradition of initial teacher education (ITE). There is a long-established secondary PGCE programme and an innovative and growing primary PGCE programme. The School also has a well-established PGCES programme that provides the PGCE qualification to SCITT providers. In addition, from September 2025, the School now delivers a Mathematics and Education Secondary Teacher Degree Apprenticeship (TDA).
About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity for an educator with extensive school-based experience to shape the practice and thinking of new teachers. You will:
Lead and contribute to teaching on the PGCE Science course.
Support and tutor beginning teachers, ensuring they develop as inclusive practitioners who can meet the needs of all learners.
Contribute to the development, teaching and tutoring on other ITE programmes (PGCES, TDA), and, potentially, to other programmes offered by the School (e.g. the BA Education, MA Education or PGCE International).
Support school-based partners to ensure beginning teachers have a coherent experience across their course and they forge strong links between theory and practice.
Play an active role in curriculum development and research-informed teaching.
About You:
We are seeking someone with:
Significant experience teaching in UK schools, ideally in a range of settings.
Experience of a range of roles in schools demonstrating a broad perspective of education.
An understanding of the challenges and opportunities in teacher education.
A background in Science education, with the ability to engage and inspire future teachers.
A commitment to fostering inclusive and research-informed teaching practices.
The ability to contribute to wider discussions and developments about teacher education beyond subject specialism.

They should also have substantive teaching experience in secondary Science education in the UK and experience of supporting student teachers or ECTs
