Our client, a large Public Sector Organisation requires Joiners based in Coleraine
Role: Joiner
Location: Coleraine
Hours of work: 37 hrs per week, Monday to Friday AM to PM

MAIN purpose :
To contribute, to the provision of a modern, professional and responsive service to support NIHE business delivery by providing a joinery service in Housing Executive properties while upholding safety guidelines and complying with all applicable Codes and Regulations in line with our vision and values as outlined below .
Key Responsibilities
Operational Responsibilities
1. To undertake all joinery work as necessary in the maintenance and refurbishment of Housing Executive stock/buildings including and not limited to:
2. Fitting kitchens to required specification
3. Repair, renew and maintain Internal / External doors, door frames, windows and associated ironmongery
4. Repair, renew and maintain all types of flooring, floor tiles and wall tiles including levelling compound
5. Repair, renew, maintain bath panels, skirting, plywood ducting etc
6. Repair, renew and maintain all types of fencing / gates and associated works
7. Form-work and joist / roof trusses, slating and tiling and flat roof construction etc.
8. Repairs to all types of guttering / down pipes and roof line works
9. Erect plaster board and dry lining.
10. Painting and staining as required
11. Carry out a range of multi-skilled tasks and maintenance work outside of trade without reliance on other trades for example:
12. Plastering
13. Plumbing
14. Painting
15. Non slip flooring
16. Tiling
Customer Service
17. To provide a quality customer service and maintain a good customer relationship on behalf of the NIHE
18. To ensure the health and safety of our tenants, especially vulnerable tenants when undertaking work in occupied properties
19. To liaise with customers to arrange appointments, access arrangements, discuss work required etc.
Performance and Reporting
20. To ensure accurate and timely completion of all job information by both paper-work and electronic means (including use of PDAs and mobile devices) as required and pass this on to supervisor within agreed time-scales
21. To work effectively to maximise output and ensure delivery within expected timescales
22. To identify and highlight to supervisors potential opportunities for changes to working practices to ensure continuous service improvement.
Health and Safety
23. To ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the requirements of Health and Safety and any other relevant legislation.
24. To exercise proper care in the handling, operating and safeguarding of tools, equipment, vehicles or appliances in the operation of general duties.
25. To be responsible for the safe use, storage, handling and recording of chemicals according to COSSH procedures including under supervision as required.
26. To follow safe systems of work and risk assessments, attending toolbox talks and health and safety courses as required.
27. To use and maintain equipment such as lone working devices, mobile communications and logging systems.
28. To wear and take care of designated PPE provided.
29. To report accidents/incidents and near misses and participate in any resulting investigations as required.
People
30. To act as a mentor for Apprentices and newly qualified employees to ensure they acquire the appropriate knowledge and skills to develop their competency and performance on the job.
31. To ensure participation in trade training and skill enhancement of others and take a mentoring approach to colleagues to improve performance
32. To provide support and cover for colleagues as required to ensure resilience as far as practicable.
33. To train new members of the team and support Apprentices
General Duties
34. To carry out and complete all work to a high quality and in a competent and timely manner leaving the property in a safe, clean and tidy condition.
35. To collaborate with other staff / sub-contractors etc. as necessary to ensure the timely completion of works within agreed operational targets.
36. To attend meetings, training sessions as required, including participating in training with a view to carrying out work outside of normal trade duties, where required.
37. To undertake the duties in such a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of NIHE.
38. To comply with and adhere to NIHE frameworks, policies and procedures, including but not limited to those relating to legal requirements such as equality, health and safety and information governance.
39. To undertake any other duties appropriate to the post's objectives as required by management.

This JD is applicable to Joiners who are competent in carrying out a range of tasks without input from other trades thereby providing a more efficient service for our tenants.
*Training may be provided for works required outside of trade as appropriate to business need.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential Criteria
Applicants must provide evidence by the closing date for application that they meet the following essential criteria:
40. Have successfully completed an apprenticeship in Joinery (either time served or skills based)
41. 2 years' post Apprenticeship Joinery experience*
42. Competent in core trade with ability to complete a range of tasks without input from other operatives
43. Can demonstrate sound practical knowledge and understanding of current Health and Safety requirements and legislation in a maintenance/repair environment.
44. Can demonstrate (Assessed at Interview):
45. Excellent communication skills
46. Ability to work to deadlines
47. Strong customer focus
48. Accurate record keeping and attention to detail
Candidates may also be assessed against the relevant section of the NIHE Behavioural Framework
49. A full current driving licence to enable the post holder to carry out the required duties of this post.
*Relevant experience will be interpreted as working as a joiner on improvement or maintenance of properties.
Desirable Criteria
50. Relevant experience in providing a response maintenance service.
51. A full current driving licence which includes C1 licence category.
* Relevant experience will be interpreted as working as a joiner on improvement or maintenance of domestic properties.
