Senior Civil Airfield Engineer - Aviation
Location: UK & Ireland – WSP
Join WSP’s aviation team as a Senior Civil Airfield Engineer, contributing to the design, construction, and management of tomorrow’s airports. Your role will involve working on large, technically complex, multi‑disciplinary projects with a focus on resilience, sustainability, and smart technologies.
A Little More About Your Role
As a Senior Airfield Civil Engineer you’ll support technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications, coordinate design teams, manage risks, deliver milestones, mentor junior staff, champion health and safety, and support project controls. International travel and CPD opportunities are available.
Responsibilities
* Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications for airfield engineering projects.
* Manage and coordinate design teams and communicate effectively with all parties.
* Identify and manage design risks, issues, and RFIs.
* Ensure deliverables and milestones meet cost, quality, and time targets.
* Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance.
* Champion excellent health and safety practice, including safety in design, site visit safety, and compliance with CDM regulations.
* Support Project Managers with progress monitoring and project controls, including change management and information control.
* Respond to client directions professionally and maintain relationships with clients, peers, and partners.
Qualifications
* University degree relevant to civil engineering, construction, design or related discipline.
* Chartered or Incorporated status (MICE, MCIHT) or equivalent experience preferred.
* Experience delivering large, technically complex multi‑disciplinary airfield civil engineering projects.
* Knowledge of international airfield design standards (ICAO, CAA, EASA, FAA).
* Experience with Civil 3D and other airfield design software such as AviPlan, SkySafe, FAARFIELD.
* Knowledge of construction contracts (e.g. NEC) and processes.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present technical information.
* Team player who enjoys collaborating and solving complex problems.
* Ability to work independently and make technical engineering decisions.
