Responsibilities

Provide direct care to residents supporting and promoting their independence, choice, dignity, and overall wellbeing.

* Wash, shower, and bathe residents.
* Promote continence and assist with toileting.
* Assist with dressing.
* Assist with food and fluid intake.
* Mobility support – ensure use of manual handling equipment, wheelchairs, and other aids.
* Participate in developing Personal Care Plans with the Named Nurse and the resident, with full awareness of specialist support needs (dietary, medical, communication, cultural, etc.).
* Provide ongoing support for residents, families, and the Care Team, ensuring supplies of personal clothing, grooming or beauty products, and liaising with Laundry staff to keep clothing labelled.
* Store equipment according to manufacturer instructions, clean and store after use, report faults, and contribute to monthly auditing reviews.
* Participate in resident activities and events.
* Administer medication following Principle Care Homes Medication Policy, after completing competency‑based training.
* Conduct random daily and monthly audits, reconciliations, and manage medication supply to avoid shortages.
* Extend clinical competencies as needed (venepuncture, wound care, etc.) when training exists and interest is identified.
* Respond to emergency calls and support requests for help, irrespective of the resident's care package status.
* Monitor and report residents' daily progress on Nourish, escalating to the Nurse or Senior Manager when necessary.
* Help residents create a homely environment in their apartments.
* Support and participate in meaningful activities and therapies for residents with dementia.
* Attend mandatory training, management, and supervisory training; engage in supervision and one‑to‑one meetings and yearly reviews.
* Assist in completing clinical and environmental audits and action plans.
* Conduct Quality Care Spot Checks, feed back to Carers and Senior Carers, and support development through appraisals and supervision.
* Monitor Care Plans and reviews on Nourish.
* Support, guide, and develop the team, carrying out regular supervisions and performance management.
* Manage day‑to‑day supervisory issues, absence, return to work interviews, and accident/incident reporting.
* Address concerns or complaints from residents or relatives promptly and appropriately.
* Attend staff meetings and contribute meaningfully.
* Work flexibly within contracted hours, including days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays; sign an opt‑out clause under Working Time Directives if chosen.
* Wear provided staff uniforms and maintain a clean, presentable appearance.


Health and Safety

The post‑holder must maintain personal responsibilities under Health and Safety at Work Regulations and the company Health and Safety Policy, ensuring safe working practices and recommended storage of equipment.

* Control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
* Electricity at Work, Lift & Lifting Equipment.
* Manual/Object Handling.
* Gas Installation & Use.
* Provision and Use of Work Equipment.
* Fire Precautions.
* Personal Protective Equipment.
* Legionella/Water Treatment.
* Waste Management.
* Reporting of Injuries, Diseases & Dangerous Occurrences Regulations.
* Appraise and assess measures to prevent infection control hazards.
* Follow and report all concerns and incidents in line with the company incident reporting and whistleblowing procedure, including safeguarding adult's procedures.


Skills and Knowledge

* Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
* Basic IT literacy.
* Ability to organise and prioritise tasks and work under pressure.
* Previous experience in a Care role.
* Minimum of NVQ 3 or equivalent.
* Recognised Medication administration qualification and experience.
* Demonstrable ability in organising, leading, inspiring, and influencing a team.
