Digital Engineering Integration Systems Engineer

Leonardo Future Combat Air (FCA) is looking for an open‑mind, collaborative Digital Engineering Integration Systems Engineer with a breadth of experience to help deliver and integrate the Digital Engineering/Digital Thread enabling capabilities required to support the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) Design and Development phase.

GCAP is an international collaboration between the UK, Japan and Italy that is developing a 6th generation Future Combat Air platform, known in the UK as Tempest, which will replace the Royal Air Force Typhoon fleet. Leonardo UK (LEUK) plays a leading role in delivering airborne sensors and communications capabilities for GCAP. Fundamental to this effort is the provision of the right tools, capabilities and facilities and the creation of a Single Source of Truth (SSoT) for all products.

What You Will Do

* Work closely with the Digital Engineering Product Owner and other stakeholders to agree User Needs/Use Cases for Digital Engineering capabilities in line with the Digital Engineering Strategy for GCAP, and decompose User Needs into enabling capabilities.
* Ensure alignment with the overall GCAP and internal Leonardo Digital Engineering Roadmaps to achieve an integrated, end‑to‑end product development.
* Collaborate with future factory and engineering functions to create a target state vision for the Digital Engineering Environment and Digital Thread, including PLM/ALM modernization, model‑based engineering and connected engineering ecosystems.
* Represent Leonardo as a subject‑matter expert, supporting industry engagement on Digital Engineering topics and liaising with partners to influence future ways of working for GCAP and plan a Digital Engineering transformation solution across Leonardo.
* Plan proof‑of‑concept and proof‑of‑value demonstrations to provide confidence that new Digital Engineering services meet time and cost goals for the GCAP Programme.
* Undertake necessary planning, requirements and deployment management to ensure Digital Engineering capability insertions are fully integrated and aligned to the GCAP Programme.
* Support project implementation and delivery of Digital Engineering services and capabilities into GCAP using a systematic approach, and trial and demonstrate the benefits of Digital Engineering capabilities by testing against evolving Programme requirements.
* Provide feedback to improve the usability and quality of Digital Engineering environments and Digital Threads for GCAP.

What You’ll Bring

Required

* Excellent communication skills at all levels of hierarchy and across cultures.
* Ability to influence and inspire trust in others.
* Ability to work effectively under uncertainty.
* Proactive problem‑solver seeking win‑win solutions.
* Broad engineering experience and strong understanding of engineering functions, projects and processes.
* Familiarity with latest Digital Engineering technologies, methods and trends.
* Passion for continuous learning and growth in Digital Engineering.
* Demonstrated experience building and executing models using engineering tools related to systems modelling, PLM, CAD/CAE, simulation or requirements management.
* Collaboration within a team‑based environment.

Nice to Have

* Proven technical expertise and management on defence programmes and knowledge of related disciplines.
* Experience with Digital Engineering/Digital Threads and Digital Twins.
* Understanding of financial management and programme impacts.
* Experience in a customer‑facing role.
* Experience interacting with senior external personnel on significant engineering matters and coordinating between organisations.
* Understanding of how engineering is delivered by Leonardo UK.
* Experience across all lifecycle phases – Development, Manufacture and Support.
