About the role: £30.87 per hour Location: Lisburn HQ Monday to Friday Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week Hybrid working is available, however most meetings are face to face office based, therefore flexibility is paramount for this role Duration: 6 months with a possible extension (Mat leave cover) Public Sector Closing date: Wednesday 10th September 2025 What you'll be doing in this role: Lead and manage functions including strategic financial management, business partnering, economic advisory services, and procurement within the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Finance Team. Ensure the organisation adheres to financial regulations and statutory requirements while working within budgetary constraints. Oversee departmental reporting and provide strategic financial, economic, and procurement advice to support organisational objectives. Support the Assistant Director of Finance and Senior Leadership Team in delivering effective financial management, procurement services, and expert guidance on managing the organisations £110m budget. Contribute to the development of the corporate Financial Strategy, Financial Plan, savings/contingency/recovery plans, and the annual budget-setting process. Deputise for the Assistant Director of Finance when required, including attending and representing NIFRS at regional, internal, and external meetings. Although this is a senior role the ideal candidate will be very much hands on, mentoring, advising and delivering an exceptional service to their team, Assistant Directors, Directors and Chief Fire Officer within the organisation. What you'll need for this role: Be a fully qualified accountant, having successfully completed professional examinations, and be a full member of one of the following bodies:The Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA), The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (CAI), The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland (ICAS), The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA) Have a minimum of three years relevant post-qualification experience in a middle-management role within a large, complex, and challenging organisation. Demonstrate experience in supporting the formulation and delivery of effective financial budgets and plans. Possess excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with a proven track record of developing and maintaining productive working relationships. Be IT literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Hold a valid driving licence and have access to a car for official business use, or have access to a form of transport that enables full fulfilment of the roles requirements.
