Overview

The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to fill the post of a Mental Health Support Worker within the GGC Perinatal Community Team. The team provide a specialist service to women living in the NHSGGC area and those attending any of the NHSGGC maternity hospitals. The multi-disciplinary community team care for women who are seeking pre-pregnancy advice or are pregnant. We also assess and treat women who are referred in the post-natal period and may remain involved up to 12 months postnatal.
The post holder will be required to travel regularly across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area to visit individuals in their homes or local communities as part of their role.
The mental health support worker will work to build relationships with service users by connecting with and supporting their experiences in a thoughtful way.
The mental health support worker will demonstrate warmth and a curiosity to understand others experiences.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
* Location based in Perinatal Community, Leverndale Hospital
* Permanent Contract
* Full-time position (37 hours per week)
* Shift pattern for this post are Monday-Friday, 9am until 5pm
Key responsibilities
* Physical health assessment including venepuncture (training can be offered)
* Assist patients with daily activities and provide emotional support
* Help patients follow treatment plans
* Monitor and report changes in patients' physical and mental health
* Support during therapeutic activities
* Encourage participation in therapeutic and recreational activities
* Help develop healthy coping mechanisms and life skills
* Promptly report concerns to the clinical team
* Ensure a safe environment and follow emergency protocols
* Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, families and caregivers
* Assist with educational activities and organize recreational outings
* Promote social interaction and community involvement
* Engage in continuous professional development and training
* Reflect on practice and seek feedback for improvement
* Stay updated on best practices in mental health and perinatal mental health
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
* Previous experience in a caring environment/role preferably in a health care setting particularly mental health
* Ability to work with people and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Physical health assessment including venepuncture (training can be offered)
* Ability to work unsupervised
* Ability to act on written and verbal requests
* Effective written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment
* Driving is an essential part of the post
