Responsibilities
The role is a personal support assistant providing day‑to‑day support to a 42‑year‑old man with Asperger’s, a learning disability and ADHD. Core duties include:
* Driving to and from activities; must own a vehicle and retain a valid driver’s licence.
* Accompanying him to swimming, gym, classes and hospital appointments.
* Encouraging participation and motivation for activities and daily tasks.
* Assisting with medication reminders, laundry, and maintaining a clean bedroom.
* Supporting independence by encouraging him to complete tasks himself.
* Attending sign‑language learning sessions and helping him develop this skill.
* Monitoring behaviour and identifying potential risks.
Requirements
* Legal right to work in the UK.
* Subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check) completed before employment begins.
* Comfortable driving and will use own car; mileage allowance provided.
* Non‑smoker, reasonably fit and able to swim.
* Flexible with working hours, able to work part‑time (up to 16 hours per week) including weekends and evenings.
Working Hours & Pay
This is a part‑time role of up to 16 hours per week, spread across the week including weekends and some evenings. Pay is £13.25 per hour with a £0.40 mileage allowance per km.
Additional Information
The position is subject to an initial trial period and requires the submission of a National Insurance number. Dewis Centre for Independent Living is acting on behalf of a third party and is not liable for any employment issues that may arise. The cost of the DBS check will be covered by the Local Authority.
