National Income Service Income Recovery Officer - 32301

The National Income Service (NIS) sends over 100,000 invoices to customers and brings approximately £400m of regulatory charges and fees income into the Environment Agency. NIS is the single point of contact for income, focusing on billing and debt activities across the organisation. Our ambition is “Funding Environmental Regulation by Maximising Our Income” – modernising income and making it easier for customers to do business with us.
We have an exciting 12‑month role for two G3 Income Recovery Officers within the National Income Service Business Improvement Team. The role will be part of a dispersed team and you will work with colleagues across the country.
Responsibilities
* Support organisational delivery objectives by maximising income recovery.
* Engage customers through written and verbal contact to discuss outstanding payments.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal partners.
* Respond to incidents as required – this may attract additional payment and includes full training.
* Focus on quality, performance and innovation in all activities.
* Manage own workload effectively as part of a dispersed team.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Motivated and target‑driven with a proven track record in debt collections or customer service.
* Experience analysing and using data to support work activities.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in working with systems to collect and interrogate data, translating evidence into actionable steps.
* Ability to share findings, themes and trends via written and verbal communication to support decision making.
* Resilient and able to flex plans to manage a varied workload.
* Comfortable managing own workload while working as part of a dispersed team.
Additional Information
* Base location is flexible (subject to local facilities agreement).
* Full‑time post; part‑time or flexible hours may be considered.
* Travel to Environment Agency offices or meeting venues may occasionally be required.
* Interview scheduled via Teams, Wednesday 8th December.
