Job Title: Senior Design Manager (Maritime and Civils)
Location: Portsmouth (HM Naval Base)
Service Area: Asset Management
Hours of Work: 37 Per week
What You’ll be doing:
Reporting to the Principal Design Manager, you’ll have vital responsibility for developing the client’s outline strategic project requirements into a detailed Project Brief, developing the project delivery strategy, and layering additional requirements and documentation to address project performance, constraints, risks, applicable standards/regulations, and acceptance criteria.
Working closely with the Project Manager and other disciplines, you’ll be responsible for building, developing, and managing multi-discipline internal and external design teams. You’ll manage the design process through the development of the RIBA Plan of Work, ensuring the designs are feasible, appropriate, and compliant with relevant legislation and regulations.
Operationally, you’ll ensure designs align with the client’s strategic and environmental objectives, with a focus on environmentally considerate design, energy and carbon saving approaches, and technological awareness. You’ll also support and advise the client regarding project design and delivery.
You’ll Have:
We seek a highly qualified professional with a degree in Engineering and significant experience relevant to this senior role. Ideally, you hold or are working towards chartership in your field.
Your background should include exposure to various project types, including new structures, repairs, refurbishments, and heritage or listed structures. Familiarity with the entire project lifecycle (RIBA Stages 1-7), and in-depth knowledge of engineering, procurement, and construction aspects are essential.
Knowledge of the RIBA Plan of Work, Building Regulations, British Standards, and Eurocodes is desirable. Experience with Marine Management Organisation and port regulations, including MMO licensing processes and port construction regulations, would be advantageous.
