The post holder will be expected to undertake all aspects of the patient’s haemodialysis treatment under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
To act in a supportive role to the nursing team to assist in the delivery of quality care to the patient in the renal care setting. To maintain good relationships with patients, colleagues and visitors.
To provide the highest standard of nursing care to all patients undergoing renal treatments and thus contribute to the overall efficiency and development of the renal service.
Main duties of the job
Be aware and demonstrate an understanding of the policies and procedures as laid down by the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the Sheffield Kidney Institute.
Assist patients to achieve physical and emotional comfort and rest.
Assist and support patients/staff during clinical investigations and/or treatments.
Assist patients to meet their nutritional intake and needs in accordance with planned care.

Essential criteria
1. GCSE English and Maths at grade D / 3 or above (or relevant equivalent qualification or level of ability which would include Functional Skills Level 1)
2. Level 3 Apprenticeship (or equivalent qualification) in Health Care / health related subject OR successful completion of / willingness to compete the Renal Unit competency package.

4. Good communication and interpersonal skills
5. Understands the importance of confidentiality and demonstrates a knowledge of how it can be maintained
6. Ability to communicate effectively with both patients and colleagues, including the ability to discuss sensitive issues, demonstrating tact and empathy
7. IT literate and comfortable / confident with the use of computer systems
8. Ability to prioritise tasks
