Graduate Aquatic Ecologist – AECOM
We are seeking a Graduate Aquatic Ecologist to support the delivery of consultancy and advisory services that include fieldwork and sitework for internal and external clients. The role requires a strong technical focus, adherence to program and budget deadlines, and a commitment to high‑quality analysis and reporting.
Responsibilities
* Support delivery of existing and new contracts for collection and analysis of aquatic survey data (fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, macrophytes, riparian mammals, River Habitat Survey, etc.).
* Conduct laboratory analysis of macroinvertebrate samples (family and mixed‑taxon) in the Leeds or Nottingham laboratory.
* Assist with a wider range of terrestrial ecology surveys.
* Collaborate with the existing network of AECOM ecologists and water scientists across the UK and Ireland.
* Communicate with line managers, project managers, clients, and team members via in‑person discussions, telephone, email, letters, and reports.
* Comply with internal business‑management procedures, including health & safety and technical quality guidelines.
* Contribute to maintaining internal and external client relationships, including providing urgent ecological response and/or advice as required.
* Collaborate with colleagues in wider AECOM teams on multi‑disciplinary projects.
* Assist with other administrative duties that add value to the management and development of the team.

Qualifications
* Degree (preferably MSc or higher; BSc considered) in Aquatic Ecology, Ecology, Freshwater Biology, Marine Ecology, Zoology, or a related discipline; previous commercial and/or regulatory experience an advantage.
* Freshwater experience essential, including laboratory macroinvertebrate analysis.
* Understanding of aquatic ecology surveys such as fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, macrophytes, riparian mammals, and River Habitat Survey.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Strong organisational skills to structure and prioritise work effectively in collaboration with the team.
* Solid attention to detail and strong numeracy.
* Excellent communication skills for internal and external clients, both verbally and written.
Desirable
* Full driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally (some site travel with equipment may be required).
Additional Information
